Mmmm lasers

I have to admit, sometimes I hate the science channel. Now I want to build a laser from scratch just to try it, and by "from scratch", I don't mean from a kit where they give you a diode. No, I mean from scratch. I think a CO2 laser is the only type I would have a chance at making.
I miss science and trying to build things. *sigh*. Oh, if any of you are bored and want to watch an interesting show, "Sci Fi Science" is a fun show about some theoretical applications to modern physics, hosted by Dr. Michio Kaku.
Also, December is coming to its end, and we're pretty far from achieving our goal for Child's Play. If you can, please give a little.
