comic dialog: Panel 1
Sound effect: RING! RING!
Panel 2
Jacob: What? What is this strange contraption that screams at me? How can one make it stop screaming?
Cassandra: Oh, just give me the phone.
Sound effect: RING! RING!
Panel 3
Cassandra: Jacob's morgue, pickup or delivery?... Oh, hey Jase. Yeah, I'd put him on.. but .. he's in character. That's be cool, any idea what I should tell him?
Panel 4
Jase: hmmm... tell him, "Skeletor is taking his boney ass on down, to Prince Adam's steak house to eat all his mean."
The GIMP Gary
Well.. this is my first time working with the GIMP, and it was decently enjoyable. Once it stopped going down, and I learned it could stroke things, it turned out ok. It's a bit unstable, so I save often, and its shrinking is less than desirable, but all in all not bad.
So far, here's my list, I'm sure it will get longer (heh, that's what she said), as I play with it more (heh). What? I'm tired.
The pros: It's brush tool is pretty slick, the layer interface is nice, the color selection works well, file sizes are small, free.
The cons: The interface can be a little sluggish and non-intuitive (to me), the first time I tried it, it locked up on CPU 100% (luckily I have two so I was able to end task it), the scaling/resizing algorithms are really bad, no centering on text (that I've found so far), no line based polygon like selection (that I've found so far).
I'm not a GIMP expert, so some of my complaints might not be real to an expert, but just trying it out so far, it's not bad. I really have to figure out the resizing, so it doesn't get pixilated so badly. When I first started using it/figured out how to actually draw on it (brush strokes weren't appearing initially, it didn't work until I changed the layer from normal to screen to normal again, and after that all layers worked), I was really liking it (I tend not to like slow bloated open source projects) until it locked up. This second time around however, it didn't lock up, so that's good. Yay GIMP.
It is good to be back Gary
I think the time away from formal comics was good for me. I wanted to do this comic, it wasn't something I was supposed to do, but rather something I really wanted to do. I think the forms are a bit better for it. I need to figure out what brushed and such to use in GIMP, but after that it'll all hopefully go well. I hope you all enjoy.
