Denver Comic Con Gary
This weekend, I got to visit Denver Comic Con. This was the first year of it, so it was kind of small (when compared to the Chicago cons, and tiny when compared to San Diego, but aren't they all?), but there were a lot of people really excited about it. The atmosphere around it was great. I think they almost sold out and reached capacity on Saturday, which is the day I was able to attend. Hopefully this great showing of attendees means they made their money back, and that they'll hold it again next year. If they do, I'll plan my time better and attend more than one day, and attend panels and such.
Like most comic cons, I came back invigorated, ready to draw, ready to create, and I came back with some new ideas to work on. Hopefully it's noticeable in today's comic, but I saw the inking of another artist, and it really caught my eye. As you know from previous posts, I've been playing around with line weights this year, and now I'm playing around with them even more. The person I saw who started me thinking about line weights was Tom Nguyen (See here for the start). His line weights are a lot more subtle than what I saw here, so I'll be playing around with heavier line weights. Let me know what you think. During this time, I'll probably also keep the comics black and white, until I have a slightly better idea of what I want out of this. Once I know that, then I'll start working with how it works with color.
I've sent out requests to the artists I've see that I want to talk about, to make sure they're fine with me posting a few close ups of panels and such to explain what caught my eye. Hopefully I'll hear back from them this week so I can post that. Until then, I'll leave you with some pics of the comic con. I'll add even more on Wednesday.
Update Gary
Update: One of the artists I wanted to show the work of here said I could, so expect that in the comic comments on Wednesday. I want to make sure I some good shots and explain what drew me to it. Get it? "Drew" me to it.
Sorry RSS readers Gary
Sorry RSS readers, I updated the dates on the fake quotes from BC, which was wrong to AD, and since the RSS is dynamic, it updated, but the RSS readers probably saw these as updated entries, and marked them as unread, so, sorry about that.
