Movies
Hopefully all of you had an enjoyable weekend. I did. On Saturday, my girlfriend and I decided to make it a movie day. We went and saw Prometheus and The Huntsman, and you can tell from the comic posted on Sunday and from today's comic. (Oh yeah, if you didn't notice, I posted the comic I missed posting last Monday on Sunday. Sorry about the somewhat irregular schedule, things get busy, and I currently don't have a backlog of comics.) They were both enjoyable movies, but neither one was amazing.

I'll start with Prometheus, since that was the earlier comic, even though it was the later movie that we saw. Happily, it was actually a sci-fi, and not just an action movie or horror movie. By this, I mean, there was actually a story, and a story with some pseudo science basis. This was a very nice surprise, considering of the four only alien movies, I'd only label the first one as a sci-fi. Number two was an action flick, and not one of my favorites, because of that. Number three was also an action flick. Number four is one of my favorites (except for the whole human/alien hybrid monster at the end, that was just pointless), but it's not really a sci-fi, it's more of a comic book action feel to me. So, all that said, it was nice to have another sci-fi tacked on the legacy. The story was good, there were some bits I would have changed with the story, but I can say that bout most movies, but it was still a decent story that was well executed in my opinion. Personally, I would've made all the aliens more alien, I wasn't fond of the tie in it tried to do with Earth (I'd go on, but it'd be a spoiler). I also wasn't fond of the eel like-ness of things. I know what they were trying to do, just not my ideal story arc. Even with that, I enjoyed the movie. I also would've ended it about ten minutes earlier. One thing they did amazingly well, in my opinion (like all of this article), is they brought back the very clean human future from the first one. The sets of the human ship were great, and so were the alien structures. The feel, tone, mood of the movie was great. Sadly, this director doesn't have much experience with 3d, I'm guessing. The 3d was dramatic, but he did a lot of something that to me is really bad, he blurred backgrounds to give the illusion of 3d for a 2d experience. Personally, I prefer if, when a movie is in 3d, if they keep everything sharp, so it's my choice where my eyes wander. This however didn't distract me much from the movie, so, either I'm getting used to people doing that, or I just wanted to focus on why they were trying to get me to focus on. When this comes on, dvd/blu-ray/etc, I'll pick it up and gladly add it to the alien collection.

Now, onto The Huntsman. This movie was also entertaining, but not amazing. It was a fun retelling of Snow White, and the way they handled the dwarfs was great. This movie also had some great visuals in it, and the acting was well done. I enjoyed the story, but, like I said, it was enjoyable, not amazing. My girlfriend thought they could've done a lot more with the queen's back story, and with explaining Snow White's tie to nature. To me, those were fine. I don't really have many specific complaints. There was one fight scene with the Huntsman that they did kind of shaky camera which is always annoying to me, but other than that, no real complaints. I had fun watching it, but I don't know if I'll watch it again.
